Working Principle
The operation of a tubular solenoid depends on the principles of electromagnetism. When an electric current is passed through the copper coil wire, it produces a magnetic field around the copper coil wire. By coiling the wire, the magnetic field inside the coil is intensified. Once the copper coil is energized, the magnetic field generated pulls or pushes the plunger forward. The strength of the magnetic field, and thus the force exerted on the plunger, is proportional to the amount of current flowing through the coil. This allows for precise control of the solenoid’s movement, making it ideal for applications that require high precision and reliability.

AS 3864 Tubular solenoids featuring a 1.49 in. diameter have a 2.52 in. long housing The captive plunger or actuator has a diameter of 0.39 in. and a stroke of 0.39. A glass-filled nylon bearing and the electrodes nickel-plated plungers contribute to the exceptionally long life of these compact solenoids. Plungers are spring-loaded and have fully rounded tips, making them ideal for being used as miniature latches.
AS 3864 Solenoid coils typically utilize Class “F” 23 to 40 AWG (American Wire Gauge) windings with Class “A” insulation for better protection of the solenoid during longer duty cycles.
These clean, high efficiency, low cost, precise tubular solenoids can be operated at 1/10, 1/4, 1/2, and continuous duty cycles (voltage dependent) and are the ideal choice for Medical dispensing, mixing, vending machines, valve control, farm machinery, disconnects, transmission shifting, toys, fire suppression systems, cabinet locks, latching, door controls, and sorting equipment. An optional, compact clamp permits easy installation and allows for precise linear positioning of the solenoids.
