Working Principle :

Working Principle of Smart Door Lock

The smart door lock consists of two parts: the solenoid valve and the lock body. The solenoid valve generates a strong electromagnetic force when the current passing through the solenoid coil, pushing the iron core ( plunger ) to move linearly, and pushing the lock tongue to the door frame to achieve the extension and retraction control of the smart lock . When the power is off, the magnetic force on the solenoid valve disappears, and the lock tongue will return to its original working position by the force of spring.  

 

Due to different designs, electromagnetic door locks are also divided into two types, normally open and normally closed style.

The normally open electromagnetic lock, also known as the power-off unlocking electromagnetic lock, opens when the solenoid valve is powered on. When the solenoid valve is out of power, the lock body is closed.

The normally closed electromagnetic lock, also known as the power-off locking electromagnetic lock, closes when the solenoid valve is powered on. When the solenoid valve is out of power, the lock body is opened.

Both types can be implemented in practical applications and can be set according to actual needs.

 What is an air core inductor?

Air core inductors represent a fascinating class of electronic components that are unique in their design and functionality. The key to air core inductors (literally) is the avoidance of using magnetic material in the center region of the inductor coil. Instead, it uses free space – air – as the magnetic core. Since air is classified as a non-magnetic material, this puts air core inductors firmly in the category of non-magnetic core inductors.

Unique design and principle

The defining characteristic of an air-core inductor is its construction. Unlike magnetic core inductors, which are able to store and amplify magnetic flux, air-core inductors rely on the inherent inductive properties of the coil itself and the air around it. A magnetic field is generated when current flows through the coil, but without the influence of the magnetic core, that field behaves significantly differently. This fundamental design choice determines its performance attributes and application scenarios.

Performance characteristics

One of the most significant advantages of air-core inductors is their lack of core losses. Hysteresis losses (which occur when a magnetic material is repeatedly magnetized and demagnetized, dissipating energy in the process) and eddy current losses (which occur when current circulates inside the magnetic core) are absent in air-core inductors. No losses means higher efficiency, especially in high-frequency applications.

However, there are some drawbacks to this design. Since the magnetic permeability of air is very low compared to magnetic materials, the inductance value of air core inductors is usually relatively low. In order to compensate and obtain a larger inductance, it is usually necessary to increase the number of turns of the inductor coil. This in turn requires a higher magnetomotive force (MMF) to drive the current through the increased number of turns.

Circuit Symbols

The circuit symbol for air-core inductors, shown in Figure 1, visually demonstrates their uniqueness in electrical schematics. This symbol helps engineers and designers quickly identify air-core inductors and incorporate them into circuit designs, thereby facilitating the creation of innovative and efficient electrical systems.

 What is an eletromagnetic solenoid pump ?

What is a motorcycle starter relay ? 

Definition and Function

A motorcycle starter relay is an electromagnetic switch. Its primary function is to control the high - current circuit that powers the starter motor of a motorcycle. When you turn the ignition key to the “start” position, a relatively low - current signal from the motorcycle's ignition system is sent to the starter relay. The relay then closes its contacts, allowing a much larger current to flow from the battery to the starter motor. This high - current is necessary to crank the engine and start the motorcycle.

Working Principle

Electromagnetic Operation: The starter relay consists of a coil and a set of contacts. When the small current from the ignition switch activates the coil, it creates a magnetic field. This magnetic field attracts an armature (a movable part), which causes the contacts to close. The contacts are usually made of a conductive material such as copper. When using A SOLENOID relays:

Direct acting: When powered on, the solenoid coil generates solenoid valve force to lift the closing part from the valve seat and the valve opens; when powered off, the solenoid valve force disappears, the spring presses the closing part on the valve seat and the valve closes.

Step-by-step direct acting: It is a principle that combines direct acting and pilot type. When there is no pressure difference between the inlet and outlet, after power is turned on, the solenoid valve force directly lifts the pilot small valve and the main valve closing part upward in turn, and the valve opens.  

Structure : Pilot type 

 When powered on, the solenoid  valve force opens the pilot hole, the pressure in the upper chamber drops rapidly, and a pressure difference of low at the top and high at the bottom is formed around the closing part. The fluid pressure pushes the closing part upward and the valve opens; when powered off, the spring force closes the pilot hole, and the inlet pressure quickly passes through the bypass hole to form a pressure difference of low at the bottom and high at the top around the closing valve part. The fluid pressure pushes the closing part downward and closes the valve. The upper limit of its fluid pressure range is relatively high and can be installed arbitrarily, but the fluid pressure difference condition 1 must be met.

The main function is as the inside copper coil of a contactor (a relay designed for large electric currents) which connects the battery to the starter motor proper.
The starter solenoid is also called the starter relay, but many cars reserve that name for a separate relay which supplies power to the starter solenoid. In these cases, the switch energizes starter relay, which energizes the starter solenoid, which energizes the starter motor.

How is the solenoid relay work?

A solenoid relay can get a large electric current from the car/machine battery and a small electric current from the ignition switch. When the ignition switch is turned on, a small electric current is sent through the starter solenoid. This causes the solenoid relay to close a pair of heavy contacts, thus relaying a large electric current through the starter motor, which in turn sets the engine in motion.
The starter motor is a series, compound, or permanent magnet type electric motor with a solenoid and solenoid operated switch mounted on it. When low-current power from the starting battery is applied to the starter solenoid, usually through a key-operated switch, the solenoid closes high-current contacts for the starter motor and it starts to run. Once the engine starts, the key-operated switch is opened and the solenoid opens the contacts to the starter motor.

Commonly referred to as remote-acting switches, the solenoid switch models available in this starter solenoid series feature single-pole, single-throw (SPST) circuitry with normally open contacts and a glass-reinforced-nylon body that is lightweight, durable, and resistant to corrosion.

The available 100 A continuous-duty starter solenoid models feature silver contact surfaces and can be found in configurations with stud coil terminals or blade coil terminals with insulated 12 V coils or 24 V coils. They come with either an L-style or F-style metal bracket.

The heavy-duty, continuous-duty solenoid relays with a 225 A make/break current rating come with either copper or silver contacts and are available with 12 V, 24 V, or 48 V insulated coils with stud contacts. All available heavy-duty solenoid relay models feature an L-style metal bracket.
